Why has my placeholder not been set?
Is the placeholder inserted incorrectly in the invoice template?
In order to insert correctly the placerholder, it isn't enough to just write it in the Word document. You rather need to create a field which contains the name of the placeholder, and which has the format MergeField. How does that work? It's quite simple. First, click on “Insert“, then on “Quick parts“ and “Field“. A new window will open, in which you have to select the option MergeField on the right side. Then enter the name of the placeholder in the middle of the window. By clicking on OK, the placeholder will be accepted.
The placeholder already exists, but still doesn't work?
If you want to improve or edit a placeholder it isn't enough to change it superficially, just like it isn't enough in the above mentioned case to just write the placeholder. You rather need to go again to the field options to change the name. You will get there by a right-click on the placeholder , after which you have to choose the option “Edit field“. By clicking on OK, the changes will be accepted.
Is the placeholder not in the correct block?
Some placeholders just work in the blocks that have been intended for them. This concerns above all the placeholders for items. The placeholder [InvoiceItem.description] cannot stand outside the block [InvoiceItem].
As a little reminder: Billomat defines and limits blocks in form of bookmarks. In case of an invoice, the bookmark blockStart_InvoiceItems will stand at the beginning of the block, whereas the bookmark blockEnd_InvoiceItems stands at the end.
Is the prefix of the placeholder correct?
The prefix of a placeholder indicates to which document type it belongs. So, if the placeholder starts with the prefix “Invoice“, it can only belong to an invoice and doesn't work for a reminder or an offer.
Exceptions are the placeholders for the date, taxes, the own company, customers and contacts, articles and user-defined attributes.
